Matchstick Light by Sam Thompson

A collaboration between designer Sam Thompson and electrical engineer Zack Shivers resulted in the making of this “matchstick light”. Using 3/4″ sticks of maple held together with high quality stainless steel machine screws and wing nuts, the top of the device resembles a matchstick with vents the purposefully resemble the striking area on a matchbox. While the lamp might appear fragile and delicate from the outside, it contains complex wiring on the inside which connects to a powerful, extremely efficient LED light up top and a base filled with steel bars below to improve stability. The lamps were constructed from a single piece of solid maple blank and are being produced with a limited run of only 28 units.
