Just when you think you’ve seen it all, something else comes along that’s completely awesome. Sort of like these new, high tech digital touchscreen vending machines that have been installed throughout Tokyo’s metro system. The machines, which were designed by Japanese industrial designer Fumie Shibata, features a 47-inch touchscreen display with a digital camera mounted at the top. As individuals approach the device, an internal processor interprets sensory data to determine their age and sex and recommends products based on this data. When not in use by a customer, the vending machine engages its “intelligent marketing” system which displays advertisements appropriate to the time of day, temperature and season.
